Dilution of M.Sc. Dissertations

Practical use of M.Sc. Dissertation

The six monthly dissertation in life science branches has failed to fulfill the purpose in recent years. The most common cause is the dilution of research in colleges and also in Universities. The dissertations has become a formality now. If we look on to probable causes for this dilution, following factors seem to affect more than any others-

1. The education system is solely dependent on the guest lecturers. Such lecturers may have a good academic record in their career, but they certainly do not posses good research skills. It has been seen that they are not able to carry out the routine tests during practicals. Since the PG student has not undergone any research experience, when he/she gets the job as a guest lecturer, one more dilution occurs to the system.

2. Professors in the college are engaged in those duties which are mostly of administrative type. Hence, they are not able to pay attention to the students.

3. Most of the Professors are not actively engaged in research, and hence they are updated with the current knowledge.

4. Our education system emphasizes on the marks obtained and not on the practical skills.

Because of such situations, every year colleges tend to just fulfill the routine duty of dissertations. When a student passes with good grades, they feel very proud of it.

Being a student or a educator, have we ever thought of the consequences of this dilution? the result is in front of us. Out of thousands students getting degree eery year, only few get the jobs that satisfy their education. The Life Sciences group has been worst in the scenario. In the group, where girls lead the count by almost 90%, most of them sit at home after marriage. Still a large percentage of students, searching for job fail to get a good job. The only reason behind this is their poor performance as a researcher and unawareness of current trends in industries.

At Daksh Labs, we try to motivate the students to opt for industry oriented dissertations and to remain updated with the current researches, rules and regulation about the concerning industries. Though, this is a very small step, we look forward to change the trend. However, only students can bring this change in the educational system. They must get up and think seriously about these six months of their career which may be decisive for their life.
